Laenkrwat - The sixth continent of the
world. A great escarpment dominates the land and covers nearly two thirds
of the continent. The combination of elevation and nearness to the equator
makes the desert a very hot, unforgiving, dry, nearly impassible and deadly place. The
remaining portion of the continent is devoured by a swamp literally on fire. It
lies just below sea level at most points and is a thick swamp with large iron ore
deposits. The scorching, but wet winds often violently cast vast amounts
of rainfall on the region as well as provide impetus for the frequent and violent
igniting of the iron deposits. The temperature here is next to the
worst in the planet, with areas as hot or hotter than the escarpments desert
just equally wet and humid.
Laps Lazuli Gate of Speared Faith - Crumbling ruins of a temple dedicated to “The
Great Jo’oka” found in the
Southern Ocean. Originally found by sailors out of Viruelandia in the not so distant past when the Emperor King of the time sent out one of his legions to conquer the kingdoms of the Southern Ocean. Journals from that doomed voyage were found washed up on a small atoll with wreckage from what is presumed is some or all of the ships from that fleet.
Last of Three - This small cult is found only on the remote and seldom visited sixth continent of Laenkrwat. This god is always referred to objectively and is said to reside ‘in all life’. The god’s believers always refer to the god ephemerally.
Leiberton - college
town in the northeast of the country of Arduin
Lay of the Elven Eleven Hundred - another
song about the Battle
of Foam Stallions, but unlike the Ride
of the Gallant Froth Horses or the Deed
of Shaldonness this focuses on the heroics of the
troop of Elves during that battle.
Light of Quo - The sages record Quo as
a forgotten demigod from beyond the Nexus Gates, who flourished
for a short time in what is current day Falohyr. A god of
the sunrise, Quo supposedly was why the sunrises in Khaas burned a golden hue for the
two ten-cycles (300 years) of his ascendancy. The "Light of Quo" is a reference
to the near liquid golden light that was characteristic of this long forgotten
demigod. Supposedly, it had the power to literally "eat" darkness of any kind.
Lludinoor's Eye - One of the arcane maladies
prevalent in Khaas. The malady gained its name in a similar fashion as Invien Dokal's Bane
. This disease is actually a magik feeding bacteria that grows in the cornea of the eye.
Its onset is extremely rapid and it is common among those mages that deal with creatures beyond the pale or from the hells.
The arcane malady is present as slight white spots initially then grows rapidly, covering the eye in milky mucus.
This mucus destroys a person’s vision as the eyes go totally opaque white. It causes blindness within a month’s
period and typically death within three months as it devours the oculars and proceeds towards the brain. It literally
"feasts" off the mana within a wizard’s mind! This arcane malady is incurable by any known means. Even a
few attempts by some to remove their eyes have failed to stop the disease.
Lobos - Ancient demigod whose
memory is retained in a few dusty tales harkening back to the
time of the mythic God Wars. During the mythic
conflicts, the demigod Lobos supposedly "smote the voice"
from Piadahr’s throat. Piadahr in turn, was
said to have taken Lobos’ eye and fangs, holding them
until Lobos was forced to trade. Lobos found his own doom
later during that mythic time at the hands of the Elven
hero Kahar Kainlahain.
Lokyndyr - Another name for the Temple of Iron god Loki; used most widely in Viruelandia
Lord of Winds - Another name
for Boreas.
Lost Raiko - sometimes called the foresworn or the cursed, Raiko swore mystic oaths to die as his people so perished but was thwarted. An honorable man, Raiko tried to kill himself but his failure cursed him with a burden of debt that does not allow him to die until he has discharged it. So old even he cannot say his age, he has outlasted the end of two worlds. Khaas is his new / third home.
Lunus - literally
the Year of the Moon. The eleventh year in the Cycle
of Years calendar. Certain symbols were utilized when this way of reckoning was proposed on that fateful day in Arduin when
all the people and nations of Khaora sat at the table of peace and hammered out the words that would forever bind them all to a lasting peace.
Fifteen where chosen, and a sixteenth added to represent the dark times that comes but (thankfully) once in a thousand years. Even then the guts of the
calendar was old and stretched back farther in history than its proposal on the Fields of Pelanorč.
Lyrra - Her symbol is the sign of terror, and the sight of a bloodied
skull floating above a pile of bones sends even hardened warriors a quiver with dread. The War Queen, Tyra-een, Lyrra has
many names but all fear her touch. Historically speaking, this Goddess is the evil twin sister of
the Silver Moon Goddess whose only followers are dead ones that have
become living dead or zombies who are totally under her control. Even her priests and priestesses
have little or no free will at all. Nearly eradicated upon several occasions over the
millennia, this horrid and despicable faith has managed to resurrect itself time and
time again to wreak havoc on all living beings.
Lysippl - Ferocious in battle and person, this harsh, militant
Amazon was one of the three who precipitated the Misty Mountain Wars. She is also the one who later
united the entire Misty Isles under her iron fist by driving out or slaying all rivals. She had a
cunning and militant mind and few every fared well against her on the battlefield, regardless of the odds. Only
General Avelda is ever credited with defeating her.
